This village is famous for its handicrafts and is believed that the artisans of Chilling are the only artists to work with traditional metals like copper, tin and silver. These craftsmen are said to be the descendants of the artists who came to this region from Nepal around 600 years back to create the 7.5m golden statue of the Shakyamuni Buddha of Shey. We would get some time to explore this village. We would go on to meet with our porters for the forthcoming trek.

Days 5: Chilling - Darbau
Chilling Today is the day when we actually begin our trek properly by trekking down the river south. After trekking on the snow covered tracks for some time, we would stop for lunch at Tilat Sumdo at the convergence of the Tsarap Chu, before starting again towards the second camp at Darbau, located next to an ancient cave. The Zanskar Valley, the most isolated of the Trans-Himalaya valleys is our next destination in today’s trekking trip. Overnight stay at a camp.
