Day 1: Delhi
Our GHIJ representative would be present at the Delhi airport to welcome you and get you transferred to a hotel in Delhi. After relaxing for some time, go for a half day sight-seeing tour of the city. Visit the old and the new parts of the city. Old part of the city is full of historical monuments as it was the capital of the Mughal emperors of the yesteryear. Visit the amazingly beautiful places like the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and the Raj Ghat. You can also visit India Gate, President House, Qutub Minar.Day 2: Delhi - Leh
Today, we would board a flight to Leh. A small yet beautiful town, Leh is the commercial centre of this region. Upon arrival, you would be transferred into a hotel where you can freshen up and relax for an onward trip. Take the rest of the day off for leisurely activities and getting accustomed to the climate here. You can visit some local sightseeing spots like Shanti Stupa and Shankar monastery.Days 3: Leh
This morning, we will enthral ourselves by reaching out to the monasteries located in the region. Visit the Phyang and Spituk monasteries located around the Leh town. Both these monasteries were built in the 15th and 16th centuries.Days 4: Leh - Chilling
Today, we would begin our trek by first driving up by a jeep to the Chilling village, located on the bank of the Zanskar River. This village is famous for its handicrafts and is believed that the artisans of Chilling are the only artists to work with traditional metals like copper, tin and silver. These craftsmen are said to be the descendants of the artists who came to this region from Nepal around 600 years back to create the 7.5m golden statue of the Shakyamuni Buddha of Shey. We would get some time to explore this village.We would go on to meet with our porters for the forthcoming trek.Days 5: Chilling - Darbau
Today is the day when we actually begin our trek properly by trekking down the river south. After trekking on the snow covered tracks for some time, we would stop for lunch at Tilat Sumdo at the convergence of the Tsarap Chu, before starting again towards the second camp at Darbau, located next to an ancient cave. The Zanskar Valley, the most isolated of the Trans-Himalaya valleys is our next destination in today’s trekking trip. Overnight stay at a camp.Day 6: Darbau - Tip Yokma
After breakfast, we would continue through this breath-taking landscape we will follow the snaking course of the river as it turns towards west, towards the waterfall of Na Chhumchhar. This region, full of wild life flora and fauna is home to bears,wolves, yak and various species of goats and sheep, including Ibex, Nyan and Urial. After a hearty lunch, we will continue on the most unique of camps, a gigantic natural cave at Tip Yokma. We would stay overnight at a camp here.
Day 7: Tip Yokma - Lingshed
From Tip Yokma, we would start to trek towards west today and pass an ice-fall and forests of juniper trees on the way to a small settlement called Yulchung located on the border of the Leh and Kargil districts. After trekking for some time, we take lunch in the meadows of a juniper forest. After reaching near the village of Nyrak near to the summer grazing lands of its people, we would halt for the day. Overnight stay at the camp.
Day 8: Lingshed Village
Today we will enter into the Lingshed Nallah. The trek to Lingshed would take us through the passes of the Netuke La and Khyupa La. After following a small stream we would climb higher and would walk up to a locally renowned gompa, which is majestically located in the shadow of a high hill. The monastery and its adjoining school here makes for an exhilarating visit. Stay overnight at the camp.
Day 9: Lingshed Village
Take the day off today and spend time with locals to get a better understanding of their life. Stroll around the village and meet locals living a completely different life from that in the metros.Day 10-13: Lingshed - Chilling
We would spend these four days retracing our steps as we move back to Chilling following the same route. Relive the beauty of this region through its magnificent landscapes, frozen waterfalls, and awed grandeur of solitude here.
Day 14: Leh
Another opportunity to explore Leh and its surroundings awaits us here. Today Leh's importance is more about its strategic position, at the juncture of the country’s borders with China and Pakistan. Spend your day strolling through the vibrant streets, or walk up to the palace. Established on a granite rock meant to represent an elephant's head, this is a masterpiece in itself.
Day 15: Leh - Delhi
Today, our GHIJ representative will arrange for your airport transfer from where you can board a flight to Delhi. After being transferred to the hotel after reaching Delhi, freshen up and leave for a short trip to the bustling marketplaces of the city and also the architectural gems of the city. Day 16: Delhi
As your trip comes to an end, a GHIJ representative would arrange for your airport transfer from where you will board a flight back home.
