Day 1: Delhi - Paro
The town housing the country’s only international airport, Paro in Bhutan is the place where most international arrive at first. The travelers planning a road trip can also reach Bhutan from the Indian hill stations of Darjeeling, Gangtok and Kalimpong. On arriving at Paro, a GHIJ representative would welcome you and transfer you to a luxury hotel.While in Paro, start your Bhutan cultural tour and visit the Paro Dzong, which was in 1646, today it houses government offices and religious institutions. While there, you can also tour the National Museum, which formerly was the watchtower for the Dzong. It now holds some of the finest collection of arts, paintings, thankas, statues and antiques. Next stop would be at Kyichu Lhakhang, it is one of the oldest temples in the country. Spend the evening strolling through the town and market of Paro. Overnight stay at Paro.
Day 2: Paro - Thimpu (56 kms)
After having a hearty breakfast, start your day with a hike to Taksang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery, which has the glory of being the most famous monastery of this country. According to the legend Guru Rinpoche had flown on the back of a tigress from Singye Dzong in Lhuntse to meditate in a cave where this edifice stands stands now. Established at a mighty height of 900 meters above the valley floor, this monastery is a must visit in your trip.Let's go on a 56 km drive to Thimpu after lunch and explore the capital of Bhutan. Take a stroll in the Thimpu town in the evening. Overnight stay at Thimpu.
Days 3: Thimphu Sightseeing
The travelers can begin their day with a visit to King’s Memorial Chorten. The King's Memorial Chorten was built in the honour of the third king. Our next stop today would be Changgankha, a radio tower that offers a great view of the Thimpu Valley and Thimpu Dzong. Also visit the zoo, nunnery and the National Library that houses some ancient manuscripts. After lunch, one can go to the National Institute of Traditional Medicine, traditional paper factory, the majestic Tashichodzong and Simtokha Dzong, which is the oldest fortress in the kingdom. Overnight stay in Thimphu.Days 4: Thimphu - Wangduephodrang (64 kms)
A delightful 64 km drive to Wangduephodrang after a hearty breakfast with a stop after 23 kms for tea to Dochu La makes the setting for a perfect start of our day. After lunch, let’s drive down to Punaka to visit the Punaka Dzong, built by Shabdrung in 1637. Punaka Dzong is among the most beautiful dzongs in the country. On our way back to Punaka, we can also have a stopover at Metshina village which is known for its rice fields and Chimi Lakhang, a fertility temple. Overnight at Wangduephodrang.Days 5: Wangduephodrang - Gantey
Let's start our day with a rejuvenating drive to Gantey, where we can relate with nature by passing through dense forests of oak and rhododendrons trees. Don't forget to visit the Gantey Gompa, the only Nyingmapa monastery in the western part of the country. A visit to the picturesque Black Mountain range and the Phobjika Valley follows. Take a look at the shops and town of Wangduephodrang in the evening. Overnight stay at a hotel in Wangduephorang.Day 6: Wangduephodrang - Paro (120 kms)
Today we start with our journey back to Paro with a stop at Thimphu for lunch, after a 64 km picturesque drive. Visit the Folk Heritage Museum and then head back to Paro, another 56 kms away. In the evening, you can ask for a visit to a traditional farmhouse and enjoy a hot-stone bath and a tickle your taste buds with typical Bhutanese dinner. Overnight stay at Paro.
Day 7: Paro - Delhi
As your Bhutan Cultural Tour comes to end, a GHIJ representative would arrange for your airport transfer from where you will board a flight back to Delhi.
