Mountain Railways of India have done a wondrous job of connecting the popular hill stations to plains of Indian Sub-Continent. Term Nain stands for Eyes, and Tal is lake, both join together to give to the world a beautiful tourist lake resort called Nainital. This popular tourist spot is in the Kumaon foothills of Uttarakhand in Northern India. Pear shaped of Christine clear waters does India proud. It is located 1, 938 meters above sea level. According to puranic legend, a whole was dug by three rishis in search of drinking water; water from the Manasarovar was brought and poured down the hole, this hole grew up to become the existent lake. The place earned its name after the Naina Devi temple which stands on one end of the lake. According to religious belief eyes of Sati, consort of Shiva fell at this very place when her dead body was torn to pieces by Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Vishnu.

Nanital is a beautiful holiday spot of India which was developed by the British in 1841. P. Barron was the first person to have constructed a lodge for travelers to this place. Today after every few steps you will find a good accommodation to stay for few days or few months. The peak tourist season is the summer months of May to July, and winter months of November and December. Fatehpur Sikri was originally known as Sikrigarh. It was constructed by the Rajput rulers who ruled this area in Agra, Uttar Pradesh before the adven of Akbar. Fateh stands for victory, and Akbar won the land from the Rajputs and renamed Sikrigarh as Fatehpur Sikri. The place became the capital of the Mughals from 1571-85.
Fatehpur Sikri is a well planned structure. Within the walled city you can see the hard labor of architects of those times. It took fifteen years of planning to construct a place which could hold the many wives of Akbar from different religions in one place in full comfort and pleasure. It takes hours to around the whole city and re-live the glory of the bygone era. Tourists are led from one palace to the other, from one private quarter to the next, and from one harem to the other; each building reveals the care that has been taken while constructing the building for its occupant. Akbar himself seems to have guided the architectural design of the whole construction. The complex takes after the design of Persian building once built by Timur, an ancestor of the Emperor.

The walled city is a marvel in red stone. This is due to the large reserves of sandstone available around the old city. Each building stands alone, but Akbar united them with his holistic style which was an amalgamation of different cultures. Ideas were taken from Arabia and Central Asia to make each building like an encampment arranged in a geometrical design.

Apart from the tourists, the place is visited by people from all religions to make their wishes come true at the Dargah of Salim Chishti. The Saint had blessed Akbar, and Akbar took his blessings to heart when Jahangir was born. Jahangir was named after the Muslim Saint, Salim.

The place looks like a ghost town today. But this is the very place where Akbar sat down with his navratnas or the nine jewels in his court. Buland Darwaza is a majestic gate which is 54 metre high. The gate was added to the Jama Masjid of Sikri. Strong men astonish the visitors by diving from the top of Buland Darwaza into the deep well by its side.

Diwan-i-Aaam or the hall for public audience stands next to the house of Akbar’s Turkish Queen. One can view the Turkish Baths near the house. Diwan-i-Khas contains the stone from where Akbar ruled over his vast empire. Akbar’s famous Din-e-Ilahi took shape in the Ibadat Khana of Sikri. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Madhav Bhandari, said: “As a fan of Tendulkar, I will welcome this move, but as an observer of politics, it will be like keeping him away from his biggest passion – cricket. I also see this as a trick to keep Tendulkar from a Bharat Ratna.”

According to few people the 70 feet of deep Bawadi is in very bad condition and the door of the water is also blocked from more than 35 years. The cleaning work of Bawadi has been started now and after the clean up residents of nearby areas and the also the adjacent areas will be benefitted by it. A team of Municipal Corporation visited the site and admires the effort of local people and appreciated the initiative steps have been taken by the Samiti.

The most interesting facts you can come across by locals that bawadi is the wife of Maharana Swaroop Singh who ordered to built this bawadi to gift it as a tribute to his husband Maharana. According to the legends the Bawadi was established in the year 1730 and now still it is same like its original structure.

The saga of the Kumbha Mela is as follows: A long time back, Gods and demons made a temporary agreement to work jointly to bring out the nectar of immortality from the Sea. Though when the Kumbh appeared with the nectar of immortality, the demons ran away with it and latterly chased by the Gods. It is said that for the purpose of possession of nectar there were a fight between God and demons which happened for twelve days and twelve nights. During the battle, drops of nectar fell at four places of India one is Prayag (Allahabad) second one is Haridwar, third is Ujjain and fourth is Nashik. Thus, the Kumbh Mela is observed at these four locations where the nectar fell.

A one of kind dance festival that is a 3^rd edition of Indo-European dance festival will be held in Noida this month. Events will have been organized by the Alaknanda Institute for performing Arts.

Darjeeling Himalayan Railways: - It was the first and still the most outstanding example of a hill passenger railway. Opened in1881, its design applies bold and ingenious engineering solutions to the problem of establishing an effective rail link across a mountain terrain of great beauty.

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway: – The Nilgiri Mountain Railway spans 29 miles (46 Km) of mountainous terrain in Tamil Nadu state. Unlike the Himalayan railroads to the north, this steam-driven line climbs through southern jungles, rising towards its terminus at Udhagamandalam.

The Kalka Shimla Railway:- The narrow-standard Kalka Shimla Railway, which runs approx 60 miles means 96 km and climbs around  4,659 feet (approx 1,420 meters), was created and run at the time of the late-19th century so that British rulers could more easily escape from the humidity at the Raj’s summer capital a hill station of Shimla.

Kangra Valley Railway: – This railway lies in the sub-Himalayan area and covers a distance of 163 kilometers between the Pathankot and Joginder Nagar, a valley known for its natural beauty and ancient Hindu shrines.

Matheran Hill Railway: – A heritage railway in Maharashtra built by the Abdul Hussein Adamjee Peerbhoy between 1901 and 1907. Covers a distance of 20 Km, it moves through forest, hills near karjat and Mumbai.

I – Kerala Tourism Department Corporation has taken the entire responsibility of Thekkady Lake Boat Cruise.

II – The tourism department decided no boat cruise on monsoon season. Boat cruise can be enjoyed between October to March when the water level is low.

III – Boat owners have been trained with special devices, safety measures, and do’s and don’ts while conducting boat cruise by Kerala Tourism Department. Life Safety devices, jackets must be there is also instructed.

Timings of Boat Cruise

The new timing of the boats is as follows: From 7.30 a.m. to 9 a.m., 9.30 a.m. to 11 a.m., 11.15 a.m. to 12.45 p.m., 1.45 p.m. to 3.15 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Story of Kumbh Mela is based upon the legend that long long ago, Gods and Demons made a temporary agreement to work together in obtaining amrita (the nectar of immorality) from the milky ocean, and to share this equality.
However, when the kumbh (pitcher) containing the amrita appeared, the gods, being fearful of what would happen if the demons drank their share of the nectar of immorality, forcibly seized the pot. For 12 days and 12 nights (equivalent to 12 human years) the gods and demons fought in the sky for the possession of this pot of amrita. In the attempt to keep the nectar from falling into the hands of the demons, the gods hid it in the four places on the earth, Prayag (Allahabad), Haridwar, Ujjain and Nasik. At each hiding places, a drop of immorality nectar spilled from the pot and landed on the earth. These four places since believed to have acquired mystic power.

The Kumbh Mela a.k.a Pot fair is the greatest of the North Indian melas and it has exerted a mesmeric influence over the mind and the imagination of the ordinary Indian from time immemorial…
During the Kumbh Mela, it is believed that the waters at the four locations turn into the nectar, cleaning the sins of your lifetime as well as those dating back 88 generations; therefore it is mandatory to bathe in the rivers on days that are deemed auspicious.
